March 26: Audiobook Freebie

I love audiobooks and didn’t know which topic to focus on so I broke it up into smaller categories.

The books that got me hooked:
At first I used to only listen to books I had already read. The narration of theses books really enhanced the experience and my love for both trilogies.

1) Red Rising Trilogy by Pierce Brown. Narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds.

2) All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. Narrated by Jennifer Ikeda.

The re-listens: (Besides the ones mentioned above.)
3)Never Broken: Songs Are Only Half the Story written and narrated by Jewel.

4)The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe. Narrated by: B.J. Harrison

The Longest:
5) The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. Narrated by: B.J. Harrison
Length: 52 hrs and 41 mins

My Favorite Narrators:
6) Jim Dale (Harry Potter series, U.S. edition.) His range of voices is outstanding. He has won awards and broke records for all the characters’ voices he created.

7) Tim Gerard Reynolds (Red Rising Trilogy.) He is the voice of Darrow. Also, you should hear his Ragnar. It feels like the boldtype.

8) B.J. Harrison (The Count of Monte Cristo.) After trying another version and giving up early on because of the monotone voice, Harrison’s upbeat narration and different characters made it hard to stop listening.

Suspense to make you jump in your seat. No, really:
9) The Shining by Stephen King. Narrated by Campbell Scott.

10) NOS4A2 A Novel by Joe Hill. Narrated by: Kate Mulgrew

I feel like I am just repeating myself because these same books have been on other TTT seasonal TBR lists. But I need to be serious this time. I am going to Book Con in June and simply MUST read these books I picked up from the previous Book Cons. I have more than ten, but I am only listing the ones I want to read first.

1) Book Con 2014: Interview With the Vampire, by Anne Rice (20th Anniversary Edition).
2) Book Con 2015: Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld.
3) Book Con 2015: Illuminae: The Illuminae Files – 01, by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (which is an ARC by the way. The whole trilogy is out now. So I am WAY behind.)
4) Book Con 2015: H2O, by Virgina Bergin.
5) Book Con 2017: Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Córdova.
6) Book Con 2017: The Immortals by Jordanna Max Brodsky.
7) Book Con 2017: The Queen of Blood by Sarah Beth Durst.
8) Book Con 2017: Nyxia by Scott Reintgen. Also an ARC.

I also want to squeeze in two audiobooks:
9) Queen’s Shadow by E.K. Johnston
10) Star Wars: Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray

Year Zero by Rob Reid

I got this book at NYCC 2017. I saw the author speak at a panel about deleted scenes and then went to his book signing.

I found his deleted scene (for After On) to be very funny and that prompted me to go to his book signing.

The plot of Year Zero had lots of promise and it started out really funny, but about half way through the jokes got old and I also became bored by the story. Sometimes it was hard to follow all the descriptions of copyright laws and the descriptions of the alien worlds. I hate to admit that I started to skim about three quarters of the way through.

Also, the footnotes were distracting. Small ones were fine, but they often turned into whole paragraphs. That tangent is just unnecessary and I also just skipped reading those all together towards the end.

I didn’t find myself connecting with any of the characters so in the end I didn’t really care what happened. Hence the skimming.

I feel horrible giving such a poor review but it is an honest one.

Since I already bought After On I will give that one a shot and hope I like it better than Year Zero.

2 out of 5 Downloaded Songs.
