Top Ten Tuesday November 27: Platonic Relationships In Fiction

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.

Updates are now at That Artsy Reader Girl.

November 27: Platonic Relationships In Books Fiction (friendships, parent/child, siblings, family, etc.)

1) Harry, Ron and Hermione. The ultimate YA trio! I know Ron and Hermione end up together but that is at the very end. For the most part it’s the trio’s friendship and the trials they go through that carry the story for 7 books.

2) Luke and Han in the OT/ Luke and Leia RotJ. Luke and Han have great banter in the OT. I love reciting their dialogue. And they are always saving each other’s hides. In RotJ I love the scene when Luke reveals to Leia that they are twins. And when Vader uses Leia to get Luke to reveal himself, it is a classic big brother reaction.

3) R2D2 and C-3PO Speaking of banter… these two. They are like an old married couple but not because they are droids.

4) Edmond Dantès and Abbé Faria. If it were not for the Abbé Edmond would not be the Count of Monte Cristo. No Count – no story.

5) Darrow and Sevro. You know those memes that talk about your best friend will help you hide a body? That describes these two perfectly.

6 & 7) The March Sisters and The Bennett Sisters. I have a sister so I get overly sentimental with stories about the relationship between sisters.

8) Edward and Alice. I loved that they had an almost telepathic connection with him being able to read minds and she can predict the future. Sometimes they didn’t even need words to speak.

9)Diana and Philippe/Diana, Sarah and Emily (All Souls Trilogy). I love how he adopted her as his daughter and really, that saved her in the future. Their goodbye is really heartbreaking. I also really love Diana’s relationship with her Aunt Sarah and Aunt Em. Diana and Sarah have their arguments and Em is usually the peacemaker between them, and it is just so authentic. I love when Diana and Sarah then get together to make potions. It’s a so warm and homey.

10) Anakin and Ahsoka (The Clone Wars). They had some great banter and also some really touching scenes too. He never got to raise his own daughter, but Ahsoka was like his first child. Their goodbye in the finale – I was bawling, and to this day, I still can’t watch it without crying. I am so excited for their reunion in the episodes to come and to see how it will fill in the gaps between what we last saw in TCW and what we know from Rebels.

Bonus! Steel Magnolias is one of these best stories that feature female best friends, ever. I dare you to watch it and not feel any emotion. You will laugh and you will cry. And if you feel nothing by the end of it, the you are a pig from hell. 😛  I can quote this movie like there is no tomorrow.  As children my sister and I used to reenact the scenes with our Barbie dolls and Barbie’s Beauty Salon accessories set.
